These crispy, tasty tofu bites are a great side dish or snack to share.
Ingredients
- 450g-600g firm tofu, frozen and then fully defrosted
- 1 1/2 cups cornflour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tbsp Chinese five spice powder
- Natural flavoured oil for frying
-
Judas Iscariot - Spicy Smoked Barbecue
Seasoning
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp Chinese five spice
- 1/4 tsp cracked pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Directions
Press the defrosted tofu for 30 minutes, then break it into bite-sized chunks and place them in a large bowl. Coat the tofu evenly with cornflour, five spice, salt, and pepper.
Heat about an inch of frying oil in a pan. To check if the oil is ready, dip the end of a wooden spoon into the oil - if it bubbles around the spoon, the oil is hot enough. Carefully add the tofu pieces to the pan and fry for about eight minutes, turning as needed to ensure all sides are evenly cooked. Once golden and crispy, transfer the tofu bites to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
In a small bowl, mix the seasoning ingredients. Place the fried tofu chunks in a large bowl, sprinkle with the seasoning to taste, and toss to coat evenly. Serve with Judas Iscariot Spicy Smoked Barbecue Sauce for dipping!
